The island has been occupied by Turkey since 1974 and up to today is the only European country which is divided between the North and South side, effectively cutting into two. The smaller, northern side is administered by Turkish Cypriots and the larger, southern side is administered by Greek Cypriots.

It is the Mediterranean’s third largest island and its natural beauty and superb climate attracts over two million tourists a year which is quite remarkable, given the population is barely one million people. It can be reached by a large number of flights from the U.K., and the journey takes around four to five hours.

Ayia Napa is within the Greek Cypriot administered zone. One of the country’s best known resorts, it is on the far eastern tip of the island, on the southern coast. Its many boasts are superb sandy beaches and wide-ranging facilities for it’s tourists. Water-skiing, scuba diving and wind surfing are all enjoyed at the highest levels. All the beaches enjoy the EU Blue Flag status, with Nissi beach being one of the most popular. A great attraction for families, the resort also attracts youngsters and retired people, all there to enjoy the enviable climate and wonderful ambiance.

A former fishing village, Ayia Napa is now a town geared towards the tourist. Situated centrally in the town is The Square, a focal point of the resort’s nightlife and top spot for the restaurants and clubs.
